The Perfect Garden Wonderland in Winter

The Perfect Garden Wonderland in Winter

Blogging and travelling go hand-in-hand, which is why most bloggers are indeed travel bloggers as well. Some of us who aren’t explicitly travel bloggers may not travel as much as the travel bloggers do, but in a way we get to experience and taste what life is like all across the world, through collaboration with other bloggers, input from readers and yes — the occasional trip abroad or locally.

Since this is indeed primarily a crafts-based blog, the influences which I write about and explore would naturally come from far and wide and one such influence is that of the warmer geographic locations. I mean sure, the United Kingdom is technically an island, but the climate is different to that of other islands such as those in the Caribbean and even the likes of the Seychelles, Madagascar, etc, which means our gardens will then naturally differ quite considerably as well. Winter gardens in the UK are almost nonexistent because of the bitterly cold weather, despite the winter rain that comes with it and so many Britons don’t even bother with a winter garden, but it really doesn’t have to be that way.

One can still enjoy some of the beauty of Mother Nature as expressed through her flora, even if the seasonal weather otherwise doesn’t ordinarily permit. You can indeed still have your perfect winter garden wonderland in spite of the challenging weather conditions.

Garden specialists Oeco Garden Rooms have pulled together their many years of experience in creating some of the most enchanting garden sanctuaries to demonstrate how winter gardens can be just as beautiful and flourishing as in any other season.

Garden Structure & Layout

Hedges, wall gardens, and raised flower beds go a long way in structuring your garden in such a way that it doesn’t appear unbalanced when the summer bloomers die off and the garden is only left with those plants which thrive in winter. In addition, you can have a paver patio installed to create a space where your guests can relax and have an uninterrupted view of the garden. Add some good lighting and wooden furniture to the mix and you have yourself a cozy outdoor seating area overlooking your winter wonderland. You could also add outbuildings or similar structures to the garden that create safe havens and keep the space from looking empty. Such structures could be custom-made using the services of a Timber Building Manufacturer so that you have a small, warm refuge in your garden even in the winter.

Seasonal Colouring

Go for plants which bloom with colour during the colder months as well, as it’s otherwise really easy to get the colour explosion going in summer. Hellebores make for a great choice, with these Christmas roses flowering well into winter and even through the early spring season. Other great choices to add colour to your winter garden include the Clematis Jingle Bells (although producing white flowers), evergreen fir trees and perhaps a holly tree.

Make Your Winter Garden Inviting

robinYour winter garden wonderland has to be inviting for both you and some special guests from nature, in the form of redbreast robins. The robins will come if an array of other bird species are drawn to your winter garden, so out with the dried lentils (which can only be eaten by a few bird species) and in with seed balls and black sunflower seeds which more species can come and eat.

Decorate your winter garden with decking, fairy lights and other winter garden structures so that you’re also drawn to it, topping things off with a fire pit for outdoor warmth while you’re enjoying the garden and some winter scents like Witch Hazel and winter honeysuckle.
