Kitchen Ideas: Enhance Your Kitchen Space with These 5 Handy Gadgets

Whether you live in a one-bedroom apartment in a downtown core, or in a sprawling farmhouse that’s miles away from the city, our kitchens play a huge role in our lives. Kitchens are where we spend a lot of time in our homes. They are where we meet as a family, where we bring our friends together, and where we create beautiful meals to share.

Our kitchens have come a long ways in America. Examples of historical kitchens quickly demonstrate why preparing food in earlier times was an affair that could take hours and often involved multiple people.  Now, preparation of food has been made much easier and accessible with electricity and modern cooktops, as well as the multitude of gadgets we have to help us in the more arduous tasks.

Refrigerators, temperature–regulating ovens, and bread makers are all small ways that our kitchens have gone through huge changes. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t always afford a few more gizmos to make our jobs easier still!

Here are 5 handy gadgets that will enhance your kitchen space:

Slow cooker liners

We don’t know about you, but in our house the slow cooker is a thing worthy of worship. Slow cookers allow us to make incredible, delicious recipes that save time and money. Just toss it all in and walk away! However, while that low, slow heat for hours on end does wonders for creating fall-off-the-bone meat and amazing, caramelized sauces, it wreaks havoc on the slow cooker! To avoid 30 minutes of scrubbing, we invest in slow cooker liners which are heat safe and cause just be crumpled up and tossed out when you’re done.

Electric can opener

Electric can openers are amazing gadgets to have on hand, especially if you have anyone that struggles with grip or get your kids to help you. The best electric can openers (in our humble opinion) are efficient, smooth, and leave you with no jagged edges for anyone to get nicked on.

Pasta pot with strainer lid

Eliminate the need for a pasta strainer with a pasta pot that has a strainer lid built right in! Not only does the perforated lid allow steam to escape so that the pasta doesn’t boil over, it only prevents you from having to wash out two items when you’re done cooking. When the pasta is ready, just hold the lid on and tip over the sink and all the water will run right out!

Glass Pyrex bowls

Plastic be gone! Glass Pyrex bowls are a great way to store leftover food and they are more hygienic and easier to clean. Unlike plastic, glass Pyrex bowls won’t warp or melt or stain. They also don’t run the risk of absorbing nasty bacteria that could make you or your family ill or of using dangerous chemicals. Another plus? Most of them nest together, making storage a breeze.

Instant thermometer

This is a kitchen plus that we were surprised to learn most people are lacking. Instant thermometers allow you to take the guesswork out of when your meats are prepared, and prevent you from serving over or undercooked food to your guests and family.
