Sometimes you may get the urge to grab a pinny and get baking a cake or flapjacks for the family. Then the inevitable guilt of “unhealthy eating” strikes and you feel bad about baking something that might not fit into your diet plan.
Thanks to the surge in super-foods and their supplements, as well as a library of healthy recipes, it’s never been so easy to find healthy and vitamin packed bakes for you and the family.
In the last ten years, incorporating super-foods and healthy supplements into food has become incredibly popular. While those who don’t have the time to bake might benefit from taking supplement pills, such as these amygdalin b17 500mg tablets, baking with supplements is a great way to combine a passion with a healthy lifestyle. The rise in popularity of gyms and clean living have meant there are new generations who are careful about what they eat and already planning their diet based on the life (and health) they want in the future.
Taking this into account, we’ve researched the web to find some of our favourite super-food and super-healthy bakery recipes for you to try at home.
Teff flour bakes
Teff is an Ethiopian ingredient that has bags of protein and vitamin C content, making it a great flour replacement in baking. Derived from millet, it’s just flour and is incredibly easy to use. Ideal for those looking to have some baked snacks but wanting to adhere to a high-protein diet, something like a teff, banana and apricot tea loaf could be the perfect recipe for you.
Khorasan flour cakes
Khorasan flour is another great flour replacement that provides plentiful health benefits. Khorasan is yet again high in protein content but also has high fibre making it a great ingredient for muscle building, digestive cleansing super-food. It can be substituted weight-for-weight in nearly any recipe and works incredibly well in cakes. Just be away that it does absorb a bit more water than you’re used to, so you may need to add some more.

Amaranth grain flapjacks
As already described, amaranth is a grain that was predominately used in South America. As yet another gluten free seed, it has multiple health benefits due to its high protein, vitamin C and calcium content. It can be used to bake biscuits, cake toppings or cereal bars. Our favourite example however is this great Amaranth and Orange flapjack that make for great on-the-go snacks or post-workout fuel without any sugar.

Coconut & Turmeric Cake
Last but not least is our favourite of them all, is this wonderful savoury cake that goes perfectly with a scoop of iced yogurt. Coconuts are great sources of natural ingredients that contain protein, cooper, zinc, iron, magnesium, potassium and selenium. All have special roles to play in the upkeep and health of the human body. Turmeric is also a fantastic super-food to bake with. Not only does it provide an innovative flavour but its properties can help with joints and ensuring healthy cartilage production. If you want to get even more out of your bake, look at using a turmeric supplement like opti-turmeric to get even more of the benefits.

As you can see from above, there are plenty of ways to bake more healthily and incorporate some much needed super-foods into you and your friends and family’s diet. Baking with super-foods also makes for a more interesting and challenging bake and is likely to have the added benefit of being gluten-free, as many of the flours/grains mentioned above are naturally free of gluten anyway. So next time you feel peckish and want to bake, consider your ingredients and see if you can add a pinch of super-food to make it a super-bake.
