If you’re reading this article, then you’ve probably decided to shuffle things around in your apartment or home, to make living a more enjoyable experience.
You’re in luck, because I am here to give you seven key decorating tips to make any room, including your own, better.
You might be surprised at what you find here, because as you will see below, none of these tips propose huge changes. The devil is in the details, and that will be my focus today. After reading this and (hopefully) implementing anything I’ve suggested here, your room will be transformed for the better.
- Get rid of excess furniture
This might sound obvious now that you read it, but most of the time people tend to forget this one. Too much furniture in the room places a lot of stress on any environment, and any details you might have in your room will be drowned in it. Give your furniture some breathing room and watch your living quarters improve instantly.
- Throw out the extras frequently
Us humans, we’re hoarders by default. For some strange reason we keep hold of things we no longer need, for way to long. Just like you got rid of excess furniture, make sure you revaluate your possessions every year. You will be surprised how much stuff we keep that we simply don’t need and don’t use any more.
- Be creative
If you don’t like huge TV stands, but have extra books lying around, why not use them as a TV stand instead? Not only will it showcase your personality, but it will also be useful and original, making your room stand out from all others.
- Paint your walls last
This is a topic that’s been covered many times before, yet people still ignore it. First move your furniture in and place it, then think about the colours of your walls. Sure, everyone likes to move into a freshly painted home but white walls are boring, and placing furniture first can give you great ideas on colour walls, combinations and details.
- Dual-purpose furniture is the future
Is your couch also your bed? If it’s not, then you have room for improvement. Furniture tends to be multi-useful, so you might want to think about investing in a hollow ottoman that can be also used for storage, or a dining table with a built-in leaf. If you’re not sure where to find one, you can try at LoveTheSign, it’s always a safe bet.
- Add pillows
Does your couch have pillows? Does your couch have “enough†pillows? Probably not. A couch can come with a pillow or two, but if you’re really looking to get cosy in the living room, you might want to add a couple more. If you’re scared about picking the wrong colour shade, go for an exact opposite and you can’t miss (for example, if your couch is dark blue, go for a pair of orange pillows).
- Mind the rug
It might sound trivial, but it’s far from it. Your furniture is either on the rug, or off the rug. You can’t have both. Sure you can, but it looks awful. Instead, either put all the furniture (a couch, a couple of armchairs, an ottoman) on the couch, or just keep your table there. That way your room will get the feel of a furniture showroom, really cool.
Like I said, the devil is in the details, and careful consideration and a lot of thought must be invested in order to make your room look cool without investing hundreds of dollars. With these simple tips you will transform your quarters from an average room into a cool-looking space for living.
