3 Tips to Help Keep Your Floors Cleaner, Longer

To have a happy, healthy family, you have to have a clean home for your family to live. When your home isn’t clean, you and your family are more likely to suffer from breathing-related illnesses as well as being more prone to getting sick or feeling down. Sadly, you can’t just clean your house once and be done with it; it has to be a constant job. But luckily, there are some things you can do that can extend the amount of time between necessary cleaning sessions, especially when it comes to your floors. To show you how, here are three tips you can try that will help you keep your floors cleaner, longer.

Wipe Your Feet Inside and Out

One of the most common ways that your floors can become dirty if by tracking in dirt, mud, and dust from outside. To cut down on this, a contributor to Real Simple recommends keeping floor mats on both the inside and the outside of all the doors into and out of your home. By doing this, you’ll have two chances to catch as much debris as possible before it comes into your home. Additionally, taking off your shoes once you get inside can also help cut down on the need to clean your floors as often, although you should regularly have your carpets cleaned regardless.

Properly Groom Your Pets

Another big reason the floors of your home can become dirty is due to your pets. While you may love having your pets inside with you, they can wreak havoc on your flooring and the air quality of your home. To keep this damage to a minimum, Amanda Thomas, a contributor to Quick and Dirty Tips, suggests that you properly groom your pets on a very regular basis. This includes brushing them out at least every week or two and giving them a bath on a monthly or even weekly basis. As the seasons change, you’ll notice a change in your pet’s coat that could necessitate more or less grooming. But by making sure your pet isn’t shedding all throughout your home, it can cut down on the amount of cleaning you have to do to your floors.

Use A Carpet Rake

Carpeting is one type of flooring that can really grab onto the particles that fall into it and not let go. Even if you regularly vacuum your house, you may not actually be getting everything out of your carpet with just a normal vacuum. So to get the most out of your vacuuming, Corina Wilson of House Cleaning Central, recommends getting a carpet rake that you use prior to vacuuming. Carpet rakes can loosen the fibers of your carpet and allow for your vacuum to get more of whatever’s trapped in there. This can make your carpets much cleaner than when you just use a standard vacuum.

If you want your floors to stay cleaner, longer, use the tips mentioned above to help you get there.
