Use Lighting Correctly
Light plays a huge role in helping your body know when it should be going to sleep or waking up. Knowing this, it’s important that you use lighting correctly in your bedroom if you want to be able to keep normal and consistent sleep hours. According to the Better Sleep Council, you should put coverings over your windows if the sun would be waking you up before you’re ready to wake on your own. Additionally, try to remove all electronics from your bedroom. The light that emanates from these devices can make it harder for your brain and body to realize that it should be getting ready for sleep.
Set The Right Temperature
Temperature can also play a big part in helping you get to sleep and stay asleep during the night. According to BestHealthMag.ca, having a lower temperature signals to your body that it’s time to start getting ready for sleep. Additionally, keeping the temperature low while you sleep can keep you from overheating and waking up from being uncomfortable in the middle of the night. To prepare for this, try turning down the heat or turning up the a/c or a fan when you’re getting ready to sleep to help reduce the temperature a little bit in your room.
Consider The Sounds
Sound is another thing that can impact the way you fall asleep and stay asleep. If there’s a lot of outside noise that comes into your bedroom, either from around your house or outside your home, you may want to take some steps to eliminate that noise. According to Kimberly Sayers Bartosch, a contributor to The Spruce, you can try to use a sound machine that will play soothing sounds or music to help you block out other outside noise and get to sleep.
