3 Problems that can be solved with a paper bag

Every day we come across situations that are less than ideal. Perhaps the avocado we brought in for lunch wasn’t quite ripe enough or maybe we run into a hidden area of poison ivy. Situations like this are often unavoidable and a solution can often be hard to come by in the initial moment of panic or disappointment. I bet you didn’t realise that these things could be solved by something as easy to come by as a brown paper bag?

  1. Soothe and dry up poison ivy

Poison ivy can create an unpleasant rash that can be itchy and extremely uncomfortable. A proven method for soothing and calming down the rash is to use paper bags and apple cider vinegar.

Firstly, wash the rash as quickly as possible to help reduce the severity of the rash. It is important to remove as much excess oil off the skin as possible so that you can minimalise the affect.

Cut paper bags into small strips and soak them in apple cider vinegar until they have absorbed a lot of the liquid. Then place the strips over the rash and leave them to soak there for a while to draw out the toxins.

Wash away any excess and repeat if necessary. This won’t completely heal the rash, but it will help reduce the discomfort of the linked symptoms.

  1. Ripen up fruit

By placing some fruits in paper bags, you isolate the chemicals that the fruit releases and therefore they ripen quicker. This isn’t a speedy process, but it works faster than allowing your fruit to air ripen naturally.

  1. Streak free windows and mirrors

Instead of using that old rag for cleaning your windows and being left with streaks and smears, switch to paper bags. They absorb all of the excess moisture and leave you with a streak free shine.
