- Add Some Color To Your Cutting Boards
If you have wooden cutting boards for things like veggies and fruits, chances are when you first got them you thought the wood looked really nice in your kitchen. But, over time this wood material got boring. Instead of throwing them away, why not paint the edges? This is a really easy and quick way to change the look of them. Also, you can even get a brander, found at stores like Joann Fabrics or Michael’s and brand each of the wood cutting boards with tags like Veggies, Fruits, Meats, etc. These two changes really make the boards look intriguing and new!
- Start Growing Herbs In Your Kitchen
Greenery is a well-known option to add life and color to any space. Why not start growing your own greens (in terms of herbs) in your kitchen? Simply take some cool jars, cans or planters, add some soil and your herbs, bulbs or seeds and keep them in your kitchen waiting for them to bloom. This is beneficial for two reasons. a) It adds color and b) You can have fresh herbs whenever you need them.
- Add Mirrors or A Mirrored Backsplash
Adding mirrors to any room in the house can help trick the eyes into thinking the space is bigger than it really is – because of the reflection. You can also do this in other rooms like the kitchen and it’s simple and inexpensive to do. You can either find a slab of glass (mirrors) that is the correct dimensions for the space under your cabinets or you can buy mirrored glass tiles. These tiles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and they are pretty easy to install to create reflection and class.
- Change The Backsplash Design/Color/Material
Speaking of a backsplash, you don’t only have the choice of adding mirrored glass or tiles to your walls. You also have the ability to change the backsplash altogether – if you have one or not. Just by changing the design, color or materials of your backsplash, you can really change the entire look of your kitchen. Make sure that you look into materials that will work with your personality.
- Fill Blank Walls With Creative Shelves
If you have a bare wall in your kitchen and you’ve never known what to do with it, why not create some pantry shelves? This can be done a few different ways. You can anchor things like shelving, ledges, and baskets to the wall and use that to store things like herbs and cooking utensils. Or, you could try another option; painting shelves and ledges with a medium to high back with chalkboard paint. Chalkboard paint is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a paint that you can paint onto objects or walls and then use chalk to write down what is on the shelve. For instance, you can place 3-5 types of pasta into mason jars and place those on the shelves and then behind them but a few spots up, write down things like Penne, Linguine, Fettuccine, etc. It’s so easy.
- Get Granite On A Budget
This is a really cool idea too and it can change the look of the entire kitchen. It uses a piece of plywood, which is painted with chalkboard paint and then sealed with paste wax. You can then replace it with your old, chipped, stained or boring counter top! This has the look of granite and yet it’s much cheaper. Plus, now that you have chalkboard paint on the counters you can even leave notes, write down recipes or tasks right on the counter and just erase it when you are done.
